Occupation: Recruiter
Employer: TrueBlue
Gets around by: Driving and Bus

Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in Bremerton, WA and work for TrueBlue in downtown Tacoma.

How do you get there?
I drive 17 miles to the Purdy park and ride and then ride 17 more miles to my office downtown.

How does it all add up?
Well, it saves me half the wear and tear that I would normally have on my vehicle as well as gas and bridge toll.   It doesn’t save me any time, but saves me $1 a day bridge toll and half the gas expense.  For the month of September I saved about $185, about 28 gallons of gas.

What’s in it for you?
For me, since my car is broke down and I’m using my roommates car, savings is really important and the wear and tear on his vehicle.   I like the lack of stress from the congestion to construction…save that for my bus driver.  I also like being able to relax before I get to work and before I go home.

Do you have any tips for first-timers?
My only tip would be to look at what options are best and convenient for you.  Using different modes of transportation should not be stressful, it should be helpful and beneficial.  For me the extra 40 minutes a day to my commute is worth the benefits, but it may not be for some.   Do your homework before taking on riding the bus – use the trip planner to find the best route and talk to your bus driver the first time you are on the route.  They are very helpful and will ensure that you get where you need to go.
