Occupation: Structural Engineer
Gets around by: Bike / Ferry / Drive
Where do you live and where do you work?
I live on Vashon and work in Tacoma (sometimes in Seattle office)
How do you get there?
I drive to the ferry, ferry over to Pt Defiance, and bike to Tacoma on my regular commute.
How does it all add up?
While I don’t save any time – it makes the commute about 15 longer each way- it saves me almost $10 a day in ferry tolls and gas from driving. I will also never miss a ferry if it overfills on a busy night.
What’s in it for you?
With 5 kids, it’s the only time I can pull out to exercise regularly and I love biking. My route from the ferry to Tacoma (or Seattle) takes me along the water so I get to enjoy the beauty around me. Sometimes I throw in a extra 5-mile Pt Defiance Park loop just for fun.
Do you have any tips for people who may be trying this mode for the first time?
You don’t have to bike the whole way. Pick the quiet streets and trails to stay away from the cars even if it is a longer ride.
