Name: Timothy Campbell
Occupation: Program Coordinator
Employer: Downtown On the Go
Gets around by: Car, Bike, Walk, Public Transit.
Where do you live and where do you work? My family and I live in the Lincoln District and my work is with Downtown On the Go.
How do you get there? I feel very fortunate that my commute is now roughly 2 miles. At times, I take the bus, walk, bike, and occasionally catch a ride with my wife, before we drop-off our daughter at preschool in the morning.
How does it all add up? How much money and time do you save? It would be difficult to quantify how much money we save. We try to always keep our car trips short and/or combine any errands we need done, just in one trip. Nevertheless, I would say that having such a short commute into the office has allowed me to focus on other priorities.
What’s in it for you? First and foremost, I really enjoy bicycling and walking. Having the opportunity to bike/walk to work (weather permitting), helps me not just enjoy my surroundings, but it also boosts my energy levels, while reducing my carbon footprint.
Do you have any tips for people who might be trying this mode for the first time?
When I first started commuting regularly to Seattle on Sound Transit from Tacoma, I was quite surprised to learn how much I enjoyed the ‘commute time.’ I learned to focus more attention on reading and listening to my favorite podcasts! I felt more unburdened by my car, and honestly, I found that my commute into work wasn’t that much longer anyway.
