Name: Jana
Occupation: Intern, Office of Environmental Policy & Sustainability
Employer: City of Tacoma
Gets Around By: Transit and my Prius, “Penny”
1. Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in the Proctor district and I work downtown at the Tacoma Municipal Building.
2. How do you get there?
I take Pierce Transit route 11.
3. How does it all add up? How much money or time do you save?
If I drive, I have to choose between paying for parking ($5 a day) or parking for free several blocks from my building and walking. So either way, I’m saving time or money. Not to mention gas money! Any City of Tacoma employee can get a free ORCA card, so it’s a great way to save money.
4. What’s in it for you?
I enjoy relaxing on the bus rather than worrying about driving or finding parking. I’m also very conscientious about greenhouse gas emissions and try to help reduce my carbon footprint in various ways. Taking the bus is a great way to do that.
5. Do you have any tips for people who might be trying this mode for the first time?
If you find taking the bus intimidating, just try it out on a short trip. And if you work downtown, see if getting an ORCA card from your employer is a possibility.
