Meet Garrett

Name: Garrett
Occupation: Geologist
Employer: GeoEngineers
Gets around by: Bike, Bus, Car

Where do you live and where do you work?
I live near 19th and Stevens and work at 1101 S Fawcett Ave

How do you get there?
In descending order of frequency: Bike, Bus, Car

How much money or time do you save?
Bike and bus (bus paid for by work) saves about $60 per month; car saves about 6 minutes per day.

What’s in it for you?
Health, slowing down/observing (meditating really), helping Tacoma’s environment

Do you have any tips for people who may be trying this mode for the first time?
If your bike is in decent shape, bus it to work one non-rainy day and try a leisurely ride home in the afternoon just to ease into things. If your bike needs help don’t be afraid to take it to a shop and spend $5 to $100 to have it fixed up; this is hardly expensive considering the cost of car commuting is about $25 a week (based on 5 miles each way, $0.50 per mile [that’s including everything: cost of gas, replacing parts and replacing car every 200,000 miles etc.])
