Meet David C

Name: David C
Occupation: Biologist
Employer: GeoEngineers
Gets around by: bike, walk, bus, auto

Where do you live and where do you work?
Live in Central Tacoma, work downtown

How do you get there?
Bike, drive, bus/walk

How does it all add up?
Biking and bussing (within confines of bus schedule) take approximately the same amount of time as driving for me, when you include finding a parking space, then walking to the office from the parking lot.  With biking I literally roll right into the building.

What’s in it for you?
The primary benefit I get is the feeling of being outside in the world rather than trapped/confined in an auto (also less sitting – which I get plenty of in the office – and more active, biking obviously, but also walking to and from the bus stops nearest my home and office)

Do you have any tips for people who may be trying this mode for the first time?
It’s so easy to be lazy and just say it is easier to get in the car.  But every time I make the effort to commute via bike or bus, I feel so much better and it is definitely worth it.  The extra time/effort is negligible, really just a mental hurdle.  And the opportunity to get out and breath the fresh air walking to the bus stop or pedaling down the street is so much more enjoyable than getting in the car, sitting down and battling traffic.  Once you try it, you won’t believe what you are missing!
