CH2M HILL Offers Maximum Employee Commute Flexibility

With offices in Tacoma, Seattle and Bellevue, CH2M HILL knew their employees were spending a lot of time alone in their cars, so they took action to change that. Offering the ORCA Area Passport as an employee benefit, employees are now able to commute via bus or train for their commute or workday trips.

To complement the ORCA card, CH2M HILL provides bicycle storage, a guaranteed ride home (through the ORCA program), and encourages the use of Zipcar where available. In addition, they have a flexible work schedule environment and a strong teleworking program for those who work from home both occasionally and full time.

As a result of all these options and a lack of a parking subsidy, employees take advantage of the alternate commute options that work best for them. CH2M HILL Tacoma employees rarely arrive to work alone in their cars, and almost always use the train or bus to get to offices in Seattle and Bellevue during the workday. This results in a cost-savings for both employees and the employer!

Employee transportation benefits are not the only way CH2M HILL is making a difference. CH2M HILL knows that their effects on the local environment, people, and the economy result from two distinct spheres of activity: the conduct of their internal operations (facilities, procurement, and other functions) and the delivery of client projects. In both arenas, and as a signatory to the U.N. Global Compact, CH2M HILL executive leadership is fully committed to ensuring that their business and employee policies incorporate and support sustainability goals for environment, people, and economy.
