Where do you live and where do you work? I live in Gig Harbor and work in Tacoma
How do you get there? By BUS!!
How does it all add up? How much money or time do you save? I save over $150 a month in parking, $100 in tolls – not to mention gas.
What’s in it for you? Savings and peace of mind.
Do you have any tips for people who may be trying these modes for the first time? I had never taken the bus before in my life, so I talked to an expert – Beka Burton at Downtown On The Go. She went over schedules, stops, transfers, and apps. By the time I was finished with Beka I was confident and ready to jump on board.
Why did you make the switch from driving alone to your alternative commute mode? I hadn’t considered it until it was offered to me as a benefit at work. I was curious and a little worried. I thought it would be a hassle. Instead it has turned into the most relaxing part of my day. I ride an express route so there are no transfers. I show up at my stop in the morning, plug into some music, podcast, or audio book and I relax until my stop. There are so many access points that I don’t have to walk more than half a block to or from work. The buses are clean, most come with wi-fi, and there’s plenty of seats. It’s so easy and relaxing that now I am miffed if I have to drive!
