Meet Stephen

Name: Stephen
Occupation: Claim Associate – Express
Employer: State Farm
Gets around by: Bus & Tacoma Link

Where do you live and where do you work? I live in Hilltop off of 25th and work downtown in the State Farm building.

How do you get there? Generally, I walk down the hill from 25th and MLK to the 25th St Link station, and ride it all the way to the Theater District station. On days when I am sick I will hop on the 57 to downtown.

How does it all add up? How much money or time do you save? My commute is essentially free, aside from the occasional bus ride downtown.

What’s in it for you? I get to spend less time worrying about traffic downtown during the work week, and more time preparing for my day. I also get to spend my commute looking at the old buildings downtown instead of brake lights and traffic signs.

Do you have any tips for people who may be trying these modes for the first time? The Link can be very busy during the morning hours when it is transporting UW Tacoma students and SOTA students around, don’t let this discourage you, it generally clears out at Union Station. Also when riding the bus, get an ORCA card. Even if you aren’t riding enough for a regional pass the e-purse is so much more convenient than using paper currency.
