Meet Ryan

Name: Ryan
Occupation: Member – Tacoma City Council; Pierce County Director
Employer: City of Tacoma & Cascade Land Conservancy, Respectively
Gets around by: Bike

Where do you work?
I am back and forth in Downtown Tacoma between City Hall and my day job.

How do you get there?
I bike to work.  It gets me around town quicker than walking and often driving.  When driving, I need to try and find parking and all of the hassle that comes with it.  Since last summer, I’ve tried to bike to work at least once a week, although at first the toughest part was navigating the hills of Tacoma.

How does it all add up?
I probably save around $5 each week in gas, parking and car maintenance.  But, the bigger savings for me is in convenience, health and time.  I get my work out in while I commute.

What’s in it for you?
Aside from saving money, getting healthier and saving time I like to think that by biking to work I’m setting an example.  I look forward to more bike facilities around town to make biking an easier choice – more bike racks, more showers in buildings, more regular bus routes that allow me to throw my bike on the front and easily traverse the hills of Tacoma.
