Meet Nikki

Name: Nikki
Occupation: Intern, Intern
Employer: City of Tacoma, Downtown On the Go
Gets around by: Bike

Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in University Place, but I work as a liaison for the City of Tacoma’s Stadium In Motion Program and as an intern right here at Downtown On the Go!

How do you get there?
I bike! I was never a recreational bike rider, but I find it to be the most pleasant transportation option by far. I actually enjoy my commute!

How does it all add up? How much money and time do you save?
In short, a lot. As a recent grad, I am in a constant state of trying to save money any way I can. Biking makes it really easy to do this, beyond saving money on gas and parking. If I drove to work, I would be worried about getting to the gym afterwards, which can be expensive and time consuming. My bike ride takes 10 minutes longer than if I were to drive to work and find parking. But when you factor in a workout before or after my work day, biking saves a lot of time. It’s like a two for the price of one- I get to work AND I stay physically active.

What’s in it for you?
Everything. Biking makes me a happier, healthier person. I even met my partner because of our mutual love of biking!  This lifestyle has become so important to me that I want to build my career around creating bikeable, livable cities.
