Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in the Lincoln International District of South Tacoma, where I am usually getting pho at Vien Dong or the best tacos in town at the little taco truck. I work in downtown Tacoma, but I also go to Tacoma School of The Arts in downtown Tacoma as well.
How do you get there?
I will usually ride my bike to most places like school, work, and back home. But I like to skate to the coffee shops when the weather is in my favor. I use public transportation and my bike to get to locations that are not so desirable to commute to just by bike.
How does it all add up? How much money or time do you save?
Well I have an old ’87 Volvo that would break down almost every day, so instead of putting thousands of dollars back into it so I can spend more of my money to drive it, it sits at home as project car for the summer. But when my car was running it took me an extra 10 minutes to commute because of parking and traffic. So overall biking, skating, and the bus save me time in the morning, and they save me money I would have had to spend on gas and insurance.
What’s in it for you?
I get a sense of freedom every time I ride and am not stuck in my big blue metal box I call a car. Plus there is no better feeling than when you are riding your bike or board and you get enjoy the beautiful town we call Tacoma. That is a feeling of freedom and enjoyment you just can’t get in a car.
