Meet Alex

Name: Alex
Occupation: Student
Employer: SOTA (School of the Arts)
Gets around by: Bike & Bus

Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in South Tacoma near Giaudrone Middle School and go to school downtown at Tacoma School of the Arts.

How do you get there?
In the morning I take the 54 to the Tacoma Mall transit center and then catch the 3 downtown, or I ride my bike from Mann Elementary.

How does it all add up? How much money or time do you save?
SOTA gives all their students free orca cards annually, so any bus riding I do is paid for by my school. If I ride my bike, I save money by not having a car or all of the maintenance costs.

What’s in it for you?
Taking the bus to school allows me to have more time for all the school work I have to do. If it’s raining and I don’t want all my school work to get ruined, I can easily hop off of my bike and onto a bus.

Do you have any tips for people who may be trying these modes for the first time?
Things always seem scary when you haven’t tried them, so just go out and ride. Once you do, you’ll realize that it’s not so bad and that it’s actually fun and beneficial.
