Meet Alana

Name: Alana
Occupation: Student Intern
Employer: Downtown On the Go
Gets around by: Carpool, bus

Where do you live and where do you work?
I live in Olympia, I go to school in Point Defiance, and I work downtown Tacoma.

How do you get there?
I carpool to Point Defiance and catch the Pierce Transit Route 11 to downtown Tacoma after school.

How does it all add up? How much money and time do you save?
Because I ride the bus, I haven’t needed to get a driver’s license, buy a car, or pay for auto insurance. I save more than $1000 on car insurance per year and $1500 on gas per year.

What’s in it for you?
My schedule has been too busy to allow me to learn how to drive so taking the bus has allowed me to be able to have an internship downtown, which would be inaccessible without the bus.

Do you have any tips for people who might be trying this mode for the first time?
Get an ORCA card, they are absolutely worth it!
