Due to the loss of Proposition 1 in November 2012, which would have provided additional funding for local bus and SHUTTLE services, Pierce Transit is planning significant service reductions for September 29, 2013. The proposed Service Reduction Plan is based on an extensive system redesign project, robust public outreach since 2009, public communication associated with Proposition 1 and Board direction. Service plans are subject to change. Pierce Transit currently operates 417,000 annual service hours. Once the service reduction plan is implemented in September 2013, Pierce Transit will operate 300,000 annual hours, a 28% cut.

Primary Impacts of the proposed reductions:
Reduced local bus services on weekdays – 36 routes operating 1250 daily trips, limited services after 7:30 p.m. and limited services during mid-day. Saturday there will only be 25 routes operating 456 trips with limited service during mid-day and after 7:00 p.m. On Sundays, only 17 routes will operate on 271 trips with limited service during mid-day and after 7:00 p.m. In 2013, services will be eliminated on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The route 62 which serves Northeast Tacoma will be eliminated. No restoration of special events service.
Shuttle Users: As per federal ADA regulations, SHUTTLE paratransit service for eligible people with disabilities operates during the same days and times as bus service. As bus service is reduced or eliminated, SHUTTLE service will also be reduced or eliminated.
