Where do you live and where do you work?
I live on S.7th Street on the cusp of Stadium District. I work downtown on A Street.
How do you get there?
I walk to and from work every day. It is about a ten minute walk that takes me through a nice area. The incline makes the return trip about 15 minutes.
How does it all add up? How much money and time do you save?
Cost wise, getting to work is $0. And no time is wasted. I do use the number 57 bus around the corner for my weekly food shop. I recommend getting a Pierce Transit Orca Card if you use the bus.
What’s in it for you?
Where I live there is a library within 5 minutes walk and a local store for odd & ends. I recently started walking to Wright Park. I like being outdoors, but for health reasons also. I sometimes see the owner of a local coffee shop on my way home or one of gents at the local barber shop I use. It is nice to have that kind of interaction.
Do you have any tips for people who might be trying this mode for the first time?
Enjoy the walk, take in the neighborhood or area you walk through. Where I live the paths get quite slippery when it rains so a good pair of shoes with a strong tread might be advisable.
