Dear DOTG Community,
It is with heavy hearts that we share news of two tragic incidents just days apart. On December 30, A 47-year old woman was hit and killed by a suspected DUI Driver, along SR-7 near 208th St. E. and on January 3rd, A 44-year-old man was struck and killed near the corner of East 72nd Street and East A Street. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to both victim’s family and friends. Tragedies like this are the result of infrastructure choices and car-centric design. Each loss of life is unacceptable, and we must do better.
These devastating incidents underscore the urgent need for critical investment in infrastructure improvements that prioritize pedestrian and bike safety, even at the inconvenience of drivers. Downtown On the Go remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote traffic safety and working collaboratively with the City of Tacoma towards achieving its Vision Zero goal of no traffic fatalities by 2035. We encourage you to stay informed about local traffic safety initiatives and to actively participate in efforts to make our streets safer for all.
