What is Step it Up Pierce County?

Step It Up One-pager

Step It Up is a collaboration among local organizations, community leaders, and advocates to make Pierce County more walkable. This initiative is centered around equity and building trusting relationships with underserved populations.

Goal One: Partnership Development
Develop equal partnerships between government agencies and the community. Include diverse membership and resources that support safe and accessible active transportation for low-income neighborhoods and communities of color.

Goal Two: Bus Rapid Transit Line
Support Pierce Transit in implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) through an equitable engagement process.

Goal Three: Safe Routes to Places
Broaden the Safe Routes to School concept to include Safe Routes to Everyday Destinations, including transit, parks, grocery stores, and other community locations of interest.

Goal Four: Complete Streets Implementation
Promote Complete Streets implementation, especially in regional and local centers.

Goal Five: Development of Trails, Sidewalks, and Active Transportation Facilities
Support and inform the development of local and regional trails, sidewalks, and other active transportation facilities.

Goal Six: Leveraging Funds
Coordinate collaborative grant writing to fund Team Action Plan goals and objectives and augment participating organization’s walkability efforts.

Get Involved: We meet monthly to work on the goals collaboratively. Contact Alex Meacham or Tracy Oster at alexm@downtownonthego.org or tracy@downtownonthego.org to learn more and join the effort.
