Walk Tacoma’s Scavenger Hunt

Come explore downtown Tacoma and join Downtown On the Go for a walking scavenger hunt Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Participants will begin the scavenger hunt at the Social Bar and Grill, the event sponsor, and will use public transportation and their feet to take them to destinations scattered across downtown Tacoma before meeting back at the Social Bar and Grill for food, drinks and prizes at 6:45.  The event is free, and there is no need to pre-register. All ages are welcome.

Participants may complete the hunt as individuals or in teams, but teams must stay together throughout the hunt. Riding both the link and a bus is required, and participants must use only public transit, a bicycle, or their feet; no driving allowed. Bus passes and downtown maps will be provided.

Participants will decipher clues that will lead them to specific downtown destinations, many of which have been featured during our 2013 Walk Tacoma series, and some of which appear on the Walk Tacoma Maps (available free for download on our website and in limited quantity at the scavenger hunt). Participants will be asked to take a photo at each location, so a camera or camera phone is required. In addition, there will be trivia questions to answer and special activities to complete at some of the locations.

Prizes will be awarded to many individuals and teams. The highest scoring individual and team will each win a grand prize and be featured by Downtown On the Go in our Commuter Profiles series. We will also be rewarding participants who took public transit, walked, biked, or carpooled to any of our Walk Tacoma events by entering them into a drawing to win one of six baskets, each in the theme of one of our walking maps.

The Walk Tacoma Scavenger Hunt is part of Downtown On the Go’s 2013 Walk Tacoma series sponsored by Franciscan Health System.  It is an eight-event walking series held on the first and third Wednesdays, from April through August.  The fun, themed walks, now in their fourth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma.  The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work, at a lunch break, or to a nearby meeting.
