Walk and Bike Events in May Postponed

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Downtown On the Go will be rescheduling the May 6, State of Black Tacoma walk event.  This event will be rescheduled for the first Wednesday in October (Oct. 7) from 5:15 – 6:30 p.m., with a new title “Stronger and Better Together”.  The walk will be led by Tacoma Urban League President & CEO, T’wina Nobles. It will start at People’s Park and end with a social at the Hilltop Regional Health Center Community Room.  We hope you can join us for this community event!

Even though we can’t hold events at this time, we do want to give you the resources and encouragement to walk at a social distance.  Follow our self-led, educational walking tours located on our website, connect with us on social media for walking encouragement, education, and program updates, and get ready for some of our online walking programs, including a walking challenge and Bingo coming soon.

Similarly, Bike Month will take a different shape this year. The roads are quieter as folks are staying home and being careful. This is a great time to dust off your bike and test out rides.

You can try riding past your favorite park or restaurant (check out our Bike to A Business page to support our bike-friendly businesses). And when we are able to enjoy those places again you’ll be ready to bike there like a pro. Similarly, you can try biking to work or school with fewer time constraints and less traffic. You can use this time to find the route that works best for you!

Check out the Pierce County Bike Map for information on suggested routes or reach out to us. We will be celebrating bike month ~*virtually*~ this year – so stay tuned for more information.

Need a bike or a bike shop? Second Cycle is open with best practices in place to keep you and their employees safe.
