Tacoma’s Immigrant History Walk

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Downtown On the Go will be holding a free Immigrant History Walk from noon – 1 p.m. led by Patsy Surh O’Connell, President and Founder of the Asia Pacific Cultural Center.  The 1.6 mile walk, sponsored by City Grocer IGA, will start at the historic Woolworth Building at 11th and Broadway and walk through areas of downtown and Hilltop. There is no need to pre-register for the event. 

 Walk Leader Surh O’Connell, who immigrated to the United States from Korea 50 years ago, will share stories of her grandfathers’ experience as an immigrant in the late 1800’s, and talk about some significant events in Tacoma’s history, including the 1885 Chinese expulsion.
