Stepping It Up in Pierce County

The Surgeon General has announced a call to action to Step It Up and promote walking and walkable communities.  See how a regional team has come together with the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to create a more walkable Pierce County at the Downtown On the Go Friday Forum on April 28, 2017 from noon – 1 p.m. Court House Square (1102 A St, Tacoma, WA 98402) in The Gallery next to Lift Bridge Coffee. The event is free and open to the public.

The Puget Sound Regional team, made up of Diane Evans, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go, Ryan Mello and Meredith Soniat, City of Tacoma, Kimberly Scrivner, Puget Sound Regional Council, and Shawn Phelps, Pierce County, just returned from a training with the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors in Atlanta, GA after being one out of ten teams selected across the nation. They attended educational session led by national leaders in the industry and were supported by a representative from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to create an action plan for our community.

At the Friday Forum, sponsored by GeoEngineers, the team will present information from the training, share their action plan, and reach out to other organizations and community members to join this effort to create a more walkable community and promote walking.
