Prairie Line Trail Opens

On September 25, Tacoma celebrated the opening of the Prairie Line Trail through the heart of the UWT campus from South 17th Street to South 21st Street.  This is the first of three segments creating a 1 mile bicycle and pedestrian trail along the former Northern Pacific right of way that brought the nation’s second transcontinental to Tacoma in 1873.  This linear park includes beautiful brick work, the old rail lines and signals, rain gardens, and trees lining the route.

The next phase of the trail will extend  from South 17th Street to the Thea Foss Waterway.  It is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2015.  When the entire trail is complete, it will form a linear park from South 25th Street down to the Thea Foss Waterway.
