Park(ing) Day – September 20

poster2010_collectorCome check-out all of the parks popping up in downtown Tacoma on Park(ing) Day – Friday, September 20.  Downtown businesses, organizations, and residents will be transforming parking spaces into public parks from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Visit five parks and be entered to win downtown restaurant gift cards.  Punch cards will be available at every park location. Click here to view a map of all of the downtown Tacoma Park(ing) Day locations (download PDF).

At noon, join Downtown On the Go for a lunchtime walk or bike ride, stopping at many of the parks along the route.  The walk will start at the base of the UWT stairs on Pacific Avenue, and the bike ride will start in front of the Harmon Tap Room on St. Helen’s.  There is no need to pre-register, just meet at the starting location.

Park(ing) Day is an international event held on the third Friday in September.   It is meant to promote thoughtfulness about how we use physical space in a way that is fun and engaging to the community.  For more information on Park(ing) Day worldwide, visit www.parkingday.org.

We are excited to see park(ing) spots by Doyle’s Public House, Coalition for Active Transportation, New Tacoma Neighborhood Council, the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Expand Yoga, 2nd Cycle Community Bicycle Collective, Tinkertopia, Grit City Grindhouse, Urban Gardener Antiques, AIA Southwest Washington, Brooks Dental Studio, Downtown On the Go, MetroParks, SOTA, Northwest Leadership Foundation, Feather and Oar, and Anew Thyme!
