WorkWell Award features Healthy Commute Award

Congratulations to Tacoma Lutheran Home who won our first annual Healthy Commute Award as part of the Chamber’s WorkWell Awards. Awards were given on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at the Chamber Luncheon.

The WorkWell Awards honor companies that are promoting healthy initiatives – through health eating physical activity and tobacco-free initiatives, etc. This is the first year that the awards included active transportation as part of the honors.

Tacoma Lutheran Home brings the fun to commute options! Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community not only participates in the Pierce County Commute Trip Reduction Program but they are creatively offering fun solutions to folks who want to lose weight, save time and money, and change their commute. Their program is conducted by two Employee Transportation Coordinators (ETCs) who continually promote carpooling, riding the bus, walking or biking to work throughout the year.  The TLRC ETC’s were honored to speak at the Annual Fall Conference for the Washington State Ride Share Organization to present on Best Practices for employers to encourage staff to participate in the program.  TLRC offers and supplements the costs of the monthly ORCA passes for staff and allows the remaining portion of the costs to be paid through payroll deduction. For all of this, they were recognized with the “Active Transportation Advocate Award.” Congratulations!
