Improving Walkability in Pierce County: A Puget Sound Region team, made up of the City of Tacoma, Pierce County, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Puget Sound Regional Council, and Downtown On the Go was recently awarded the Step It Up Grant from the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors. Through this $7,304 award, the regional team will attend the four day Step It Up!: Action Institute to Increase Walking and Walkability in early April, and will work together to help create a more walkable Pierce County. Only ten teams nation-wide were awarded this grant.
“All of these agencies have been working to promote walking and improve walkability, but this grant gives us the opportunity to work as a team through training, planning, and implementation, which will have a larger community impact”, said Meagan Kula, DOTG Events Manager.
After attending the Step It Up! Institute, the Puget Sound Walkability Team will present their work at the Downtown On the Go Friday Forum on April 28.
