Get Psyched for the Best Bike Month of Your Life!

A 2013 survey found that 94% of adults know how to ride a bike! Downtown On the Go wants to see 100% of the people biking in Tacoma riding safely and having a great time. To ensure this, we are hosting two awesome events to get Tacoma Bike-Month-ready.

On Thursday April 20, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., DOTG will be hosting an Intro to Urban Bike Riding event. Local certified instructors will be going over best techniques and practices for taking on the Tacoma streets safely and in style. Whether you are pulling your bike out of the garage or want to start commuting, this event featuring parking lot practice, basic bike maintenance, and a short ride on the Esplanade will prepare anyone for a successful bike riding season.

About 100 million Americans bike each year, and only about 14 million bike at least twice a week. DOTG is hoping to have all 100 million of you at our Bike to Work Day Celebration! This year the good people at Manifesto Coffee will be hosting our morning commuter party. Stop by from 7:30-9:30 a.m. for free coffee and motivation. After work, meet us at the Harmon Tap Room, between 4:30- 6:30 p.m., for beer, pizza, and prizes. Biking to work in Tacoma is for everyone – if you have questions about how to do it- email hallyb@downtownonthego.org.

Tacoma City Council has the ability to make our city a better place to ride bikes. And over the last few years, they have done just that. However, there is still more work to be done, and DOTG is inviting everyone who wants to see a more bikeable Tacoma to speak up at Citizen’s Forum on May 9th. We have a bike advocacy agenda and talking points that make it easy to start, but sharing your personal story is always the best! Check out our advocacy resources and contact us with any questions.

Both events are free and registration is not required but a RSVP is appreciated, respond to hallyb@downtownonthego.org.
