Feb. 2 Transit-Oriented Communities Workshop

Please join Futurewise, GGLO, and Tacoma’s Downtown On the Go for a workshop on planning and building transit-oriented communities on Feb. 2, 2012 at UW Tacoma (2-4 p.m.).

The presenters from Futurewise (Washington State’s premier smart growth advocacy organization), and GGLO (a Pacific Northwest architecture/design firm), will discuss best practices for how communities in Pierce County and South King County can plan and build transit-oriented communities. The workshop will pay special focus on the current activities of the Growing Transit Communities program of the Puget Sound Regional Council. Local activities include Link South Corridor Planning, the South Downtown Subarea Plan, and the MLK Subarea Plan.

From Futurewise, participants will hear the evidence, typology, high-performance metrics, and policies for transit-oriented communities based on its acclaimed publication Transit-Oriented Communities: A Blueprint for Washington State. From GGLO, participants will visualize how transit-communities communities can develop and be phased. Questions and discussion by participants will be encouraged.

This workshop is oriented towards public officials, planners, designers, developers, and community leaders, and is open to the public. A social will follow the presentation.
